Final stop on the cherry tour, The Yamataka Jindai Cherry. The largest Cherry in Japan and said to be 2000 years old. It was the first Cherry to be designated a national monument in 1922. At 11.8m girth it’s a similar size as The Major Oak and has experienced similar issues with soil compaction. In 2006 the compacted soil was excavated and replaced with new nutrient rich soils which is said to have improved its vitality. The props, bracing and cavity on one side is also similar to The Major too. #ancienttrees #japancherryblossoms2025 #cherryspam
